KH1 Critical Mode - Wonderland - Video

So this is not going so well.

I'm able to defeat Heartless now!

I just have a time of it.

I guess as a "Keyblade Wielder Replacement" I can just pick up any old thing and hit things and they go poof.

So I went ahead of Donald and Goofy and Riku and went and went and rescued Alice before the Trial.

... In retrospect, we might be running for our lives.

Off with their heads.

I'll let you know how this turns out.

[The camera has nothing but This Face]

Kairi I'm fine really! Reira I'm fine! whoop, watch your head Alice.

I'm really fine! Heartless, 2'o'clock.

[Reira just watches, and continues pulling faces, pressing her cheeks against her hands. Nooooooo. Noooooo it's not fiiiiine nooooo!!!

Bouncing on the spot a few times, she ultimately pulls up the menu for transport.] Nope!!

Nope nope nope..!!

[Kairi has taught Reira a new word! Hooray.]

It's fine, it's all fine.

I'm sure it's fine?

Nope!!

[She's getting some mileage outta that word.

She's also 'hung up'....

Probably because now she's falling from the sky. She didn't plan it like this.]

HHHAHH-!

A swirling whirlpool of darkness opens up a short ways away from Sora and Alice, dragging down a few Heartless. As the last of the Shadows melts into the whirlpool, it erupts into a towering geyser of shadow that slowly sublimates away, revealing Anri in full gothic splendor, wearing her Dress of The Black Death Rose and holding her gem weapon, Save Me From This Chuuni Hell, in one hand while the other charges up a Shadow Bullet. She glances over at Sora and Alice.

"You really can't keep out of trouble, can you."

YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON TO HAVE ANY RIGHT TO SAY THAT, ANRI

"In my defense, I have nothing. I was trying to at least head off what was going to be uh... what did they call it? A kangaroo court?"

Alice looked at him questioningly. "There are Kangaroos?" she asked.

Sora sighed at her and then Anri. "I'm seriously thinking I should have made a better plan than a snatch and grab."

Anri absently blows away one of the Card Soldiers with the Shadow Bullet.

"Yes, yes, Anri-neechan will clean up after your messes. Come."

She opens up another swirling portal of darkness and beckons the two of them through.

"Normally in my experience and my gameplay playthrough taught me I shouldn't walk through portals of darkness... but in this case I'll make an exception. C'mon!"

Pulling Alice through the portal, the pair fled after Anri. Surely nothing could go wrong with this decision.

Nothing can possibly go wrong!

...except for the fact that you arrive in Traverse Town from a giant portal of darkness in full view of everyone living there.

You know.

The refugees that saw their worlds destroyed by the Heartless.

Oh yeah, there's running and screaming now.

"Uh... whelp... this wasn't the right place to go Anri," said Sora, worried seconds before a Shuriken arced over his head.

Anri gestures with one hand, causing her shadow to rise up and absorb the shuriken. Another gesture sends a net made of shadow flying towards the direction it came from as she looks over at Sora.

"Well, where should we have gone?"

"Maybe somewhere that wouldn't be full of people that had their homes devoured by heartless I dunno?" demanded Sora as Yuffie jumped down and made a beeline for them, bringing her leg down to meet Sora's wooden sword as they clashed. Leon was upon Anri at that moment, swinging his Gunblade at her.

Is that...a sword that is also a gun? How does that make any sense at all? Anri coats her hand in shadow and catches the blade as she starts to scold Leon.

"Rude. Don't you have any manners at all? What would you have done if I'd gotten a scar? Can't you see I'm a fragile, delicate young maiden?"

Anri. You are literally holding his sword in place with sheer brute strength.

"What would your parents think of you assaulting helpless young women? Did they raise you to be that kind of person? You should apologize for your conduct!"

"You're one to talk, using the powers of darkness to come into this world," replied Leon, as he pulled the trigger, exploding the cartridge and getting some distance between them as Yuffie landed from her clash with Sora.

"Hey Squall, these guys seem a little different to you? Kids a little shrimpy and the girl might be a little darkness-y but they don't seem that bad. And the other girl is..."

"Yeah..." said Squall, lowering his weapon. "And it's Leon. She's a Princess of Heart, isn't it? The girl in blue."

"Hello," said Alice, almost lost in the mix of the fighting as she smiled, unperturbed. "My names' Alice. You're Leon-Squall and um...?"

"Yuffie!"

Sora sighed. "Oh boy here we go. I knew I shouldn't have started my life on Critical Mode."

Rude. Anri can't help it if she's only good at Darkness Magic! She's just going to pointedly sniff, look away, and collapse into a little puddle of shadow.

Sora made a groaning noise, burying his hand in his face for a long moment as Alice started talking with Yuffie. Meanwhile, Leon came over to him and Anri, pointedly ignoring the puddle on Leon's side. "So... what's the deal with you and the girl?" he asked. "And where'd you get the Princess?"

"I uh... sort of kidnapped her, slash rescued her from her world from a kangaroo court," Sora explained. "To be fair, they were trying to cut her head off."

"I see," said Leon, sighing. "It's going to be one of those days isn't it?"

"Tell me about it. It's been one of those years for me." said Sora. "I'm Sora, this is Anri, and that's Alice. You should probably get Alice somewhere safe away from Maleficent."

Puddle-Anri spits out a cellphone before reforming into Flesh-Anri and places a call, still pointedly ignoring Leon.

"Hi Izuku. I got caught up in some issues with..."

There's a pause as Anri considers what Sora is to her.

"Well, my stepbrother is kind of an idiot, so I had to save him. You don't have to call me back after getting this message, just send me a text?"

Leon rolled his eyes. Two can play at this game of standoff-ish. "In any case, you have the power to traverse worlds. But you're clearly not working with the heartless or anything else. What's your story."

"Would you believe I'm supposed to be the stand-in Keyblade Wielder but I missed my start point?"

"Go on..."

Izuku is sighing on his end, and is telling Anri there's no problem, and keep Sora out of trouble and oh my gosh please for the love of god, don't do anything Bakugou would do. Love you too btw.

"We were fighting an evil rubber duck that wanted to destroy existence when his planet got eaten, so he never got a Keyblade."

Walking over to Sora.

"Now his girlfriend is possessing my sister, and also Izuku says not to do anything the exploding boy would do."

"That's the oddest thing I've ever heard before, and my planet got attacked by Heartless," replied Leon with a scowl. "But I get you. There's some SHENANIGANS happening back on Hollow Bastion and we can't get back there any time soon."

"That's Bakugou for you," said Sora. "And hey! I'm not as bad as Bakugou!"

"True. I wouldn't trust either of you with something fragile, but you're a clumsy puppy to his angry bear. They'll both break things, but one of them you can introduce to other people."

"Right!" a pause. "Hey... what's that supposed to mean?"

"When you break something, it's charming because you don't know any better. You might have inconvenienced the people around you, but you'll be forgiven because it's obvious you mean well."

Pause to consider.

"When the exploding boy breaks something, it's because he's violent and angry and doesn't care about the consequences of his actions, so it's obvious he won't ever change."
