Welcome to Monster High’s first Valentine’s Open House!

With the news that their World had become connected to the outside world, the Ghouls had been expecting the newcomers. Changed by magic, or coming as themselves to protect the World Order, these newcomers are coming for the dance.

Draculaura welcomes the newcomers with a warm smile, as Frankiestein, Cleo de Nile, Lagoona Blue, Clawdeen Wolf and Fangelica VanBat are leading up the festivities as the staff are milling about.

At the turn of the hour, the principal Dracula taps a microphone. “Thank you for coming, Monsters, Normies, and World Hopping friends. This is a momentous occasion, one that would mark a new time for cooperation for our people. One can hope that we are going to have a better understanding of our friends from across the Worlds.”

Stepping aside, Draculaura took up the microphone. “And now, let’s get the party started! Let me introduce our guest of the evening, returning celeb Ari Hauntngton!”

The thing was, Kotomi had become an exchange student, and didn't fully understand or comprehend what was going to happen to her the moment she moment she took residence in this world, particularly the fact she would slowly transform.

Having explained that, it wasn't that Kotomi chose to be the growing, purple-lizard-tailed, dragon-horned girl that had entered as a human into the institution. Rather, it was the draconic nature what chose Kotomi through magic, changing her little by little with each passing week. Her desire to hoard books was just the hook that made the magic pick that coming form.

It was why Kotomi smiled sweetly to what was probably a schoolmate fiven the ears this person had, carrying her own plate of personally-cooked food and brewed tea, smiling to Apple.

She bowed to Apple, lifting the purple tail that had appeared on her, and was turning longer with each passing week. "Bonjour. Hola. Marhaba. Hallo. Konnichiwa. Ni hao. Hello..."

And she goes on like that, as she sees which language do the students in here speak.

Apple recognized several of those languages, English, Korean, Japanese, French, Chinese, German, but she smiled and said, "Good day, are you enjoying the dance today?"

She was wondering if Kotomi was a native to this world or one of the new arrivals. People were traveling to different worlds all the time, and this world had been recently connected as of late. "The party just started."

With the recognition of one of the languages, Kotomi blinked, and straightened back up, hands over her lap. Her tail lowered a little behind her.

"Hn!" Kotomi nodded, "I admit I do not know a lot of the classmates I will have for my year in here. I am a new arrival under a student exchange program with Hikarizaka High."

"Oh! Then you must have been connected earlier then to this World," replied Apple in surprise. "Or you existed on this World too You heard Principal Dracula then, that many of the attendees are visitors from Other Worlds correct? I'm one of them."

She smiled charmingly, offering a hand in greeting. "I'm Apple White, from Ever After. I'm charmed to meet you."

Kotomi was about to note that she was familiar with Dracula. At least, with Bram Stoker's version in his famous book, the long hunt that took place, the various means and powers which he had to transform into a cloud of bats, the forbiddance from being invited into other worlds...

... which was a stark contrast with the polite, courteous program that immediately began the moment both worlds connected, for which Kotomi took the chance to learn more of the personal rules of physics of this particular world.

Kotomi took her hand, and bowed, "my name is Kotomi Ichinose. I am an exchange student from Hikarizaka High. My hobby is reading books. I would like to become friends with you," she says in a practiced tone, before rising back up, the tip of her tail wagging a little underneath her skirt, "I am a little familiar with what I read from the pamphlets and books in here."

"Yes, I get that feeling," said Apple with a little light giggle. "Where I come from, the story of Dracula is a forbidden tale, hidden away with the stories of ghouls, ghosts and goblins. My people aren't ready for that kind of stories but we're working on it. My world is all about fairy tales and formerly following an endless cycle of following your story."

A long story which almost ended in tears to be honest, but Apple found her happily ever after with Amelie. "That being said, I'd love to be friends with you, Kotomi. I hope we can get along, since I love to read books as well."

She smiled widely for a moment, before asking, "What else have you learned here at Monster High? Tell me please!"

Forbidden knowledge... Kotomi had read the tales of H.P. Lovecraft, and she did see the occasional tentacle monster squirming around, but such a thing seemed almost alien to her. As José Arcadio had said, Everything is known.

She found her heart skip a beat when she held hands with Apple, tail lifting up in joy. She would collect books for her new friend.

"I learned about the biological processes taking place in many individuals coming from other worlds which is triggered by a certain genetic and cellular condition that is known as invasive magic-environmental mutation, with the magic acting on the body depending on the genetic and psychological factors that influence the kind of form that they take."

Kotomi says all of that in a single breath and without pause. But what she does wonder about, when she turns her head to her side to lift her reptilian tail up to her height to wave it, Kotomi then says.

"I do not know if the mutation is temporary."

Yes collect all the books for Apple, she would love them.

"Oh yes, that's the process I heard about! It's called Blending In. It can be triggered normally or automatically and can be completely random or adjusted at any point. It's why I look like a Pikachu to be honest. I'm influenced by a friend's Pokemon."

Her ears twitched as she added, "Gaining characteristics is also because we want to blend in and preserve the world order, instead of causing a panic too for other people. Imagine if you were say, a twenty foot robot arriving in a world where people are sheep, correct? You would transform into a sheep to blend in."

Kotomi nodded, "it is mostly an adaptive process for both the world and the subject, which some worlds allow so the culture shock may not be as extreme."

But, the concern still remained in her mind. The frills that were now her ears twitched as she lowered her tail, "with that said... not all worlds have it. And in the same way a living being adapts according to circumstances to deeply change its physiology, a body can become too imbued with the magic that caused said mutations. In some people remaining permanently."

"That's right. Some worlds are more forgiving, and some worlds are more populated by humans, rather than monsters, toys or the like. Each world is different in their own unique way."

She nodded at that. "Some of them yes. If I would stay for a long period of time, I would most certainly have to adapt more permanently in order to blend in. Or adjust in order to keep more of a better lid on things. Though I'm also a Gem, a sort of crystalline being with a projection for a body, so I can reshape my body as need be."

"Hn," Kotomi nodded in agreement, not so much resignation but acceptance of means she will have to take one year from now, as her own body changed little by little with every passing week.

"I will have to get used to being a dragon in Hikarizaka if my body becomes too imbued with magic to change back into a human, either for weeks or permanently," she then turned to Apple, "how does the projection you have work?"

"Yes, it depends on how strong the magic is here," said Apple. "But you can always visit another world if you want to stall the magic out."

"The projection comes from my gem," said Apple, tapping the apple shaped gemstone in her throat. "It makes up the core of what I am and projects the person I am outwards."

Kotomi rose a finger to her chin to think. If the process of mutation could infuse her body so much there would no longer be any human DNA left, theoretically, the same could happen in a world full of humans that could force her body to 'Blend In' to force her again into becoming a human.

The question was whenever if it would be her body, but... curiously enough, Kotomi Ichinose wasn't as bothered about the prospect of her own body changing, either temporarily or permanently. To her, it was like gaining or losing weight while in another country. This time applying to different dimensions and complete body change, though.

She glanced down at Apple's gem, and bent down to look at it, fascinated and smiling. Maybe it was the draconic nature making her appreciate jewelry more, but she admired the process itself.

"Like a phylactery?" Kotomi looked up at Apple's eyes, "it is the nearest point of comparison I have, though I realize a lot of the literature that I read is highly mythological in comparison to this world."

"Similar, but in truth, the gem is my body, and the body is my projection," said Apple. "I'll do a write up on the science of Gem Physiology for you to go over later on. So that you can look over it. It will be a good starting point."

After all, Apple would love to show people what kind of things she's up to.

Kotomi put a finger under her chin, deep in thought, as she slowly nodded, comprehending. "A projection..."

It was maybe a process similar to a glamour in the mythological sense, but taking a solid form and action. There would of course need a fuller explanation, but the little she saw from this fascinated her.

"I would love to read it when you do... Apple-san."

"Of course! I'll get you my notes as soon as I can, Kotomi!" She smiled widely, with a giggle before asking, "Did you want to try soemthing on the buffet? I brought some snacks."

"Hn!" Kotomi leaned towards the foodstuffs on the table, smiling downwards as her tail lifted. A hand lowered over one of them, before looking up, "can I eat one of them, Apple-san? I'll try not to eat too many."

"OF course, I brought plenty, go right ahead!" Exclaimed Apple. "Please, help yourself!"

Apple smiled, picking up a cookie as well, and breaking it in half before offering half of it to Kotomi.
