The Return of the Goblin King - Raid Battle

A notice is beamed directly to everyone's inboxes this morning for when they get up from Hayate.


Attention Everyone:

Due to the recent instabilities, we've noticed several major events in other worlds that require attention. If left unchecked, they will begin to spill over the Duck into other worlds. This has happened previously in the past.

Please be advised that everyone's full cooperation will be required to aid in the following weeks while we get the Duck back in order to reduce the frequency. As of now, we are initiating full Raid Boss level alert.


The next is a profile from Leafa of the guild Log Horizon, who has posted a alert for a event called The Return of the Goblin King from her world.

The Goblin King is a Full Raid level monster and it is the main focus on the Return of the Goblin King event. This is a event that happens every two months, where there would be a Goblin King coronation ceremony in the Seven Falls Fortress, crowning the strongest Goblin tribe leader from the surrounding six tribes.

The players would have a week to slay the Goblin King before he was crowned and succeeding in the quest rewarded the players with rare items. A important trick in this raid was attacking the surrounding goblin tribes and weaken their forces. This would make the level and power of the goblins in Seven Falls, and the own Goblin King, weaker.

However if the Goblin King survives the one week event period, he will unite the surrounding tribes and his army will increase by ten times.


The following is a message from Leafa, for any skilled adventurers to come speak to her directly in order to assist her in slaying the Goblin King, as Akihabara would very much like to avoid another incident where they forgot about the crowning again.

[ Dame Asuka knocks the screen. ]

You mentioned there was a Goblin King out there that needed to be killed? Will we get to keep it for ransom, or do we raid his kingdom and steal everything he has? Of course I am going in!

[ She then writes with the name Asuka with a decorated signature. ]

With you and those following us, I need but one or two witnesses to denote my entrance into this adventure!

Unfortunately we can't keep it for ransom, otherwise it will trigger the remainder of the event and tenfold his armies. We'll have to kill it in order to pass the event. The last time this happened, it took the adventurers of Akibahara about four months to clean up.

We'll need a decent strike team to get through the raid and kill it. If you're willing to get rid of him.

No quarter? Oi, that will make us richer, but it will cause trouble for the local factions if we don't raid them as well.

[ Not that she minded. It just meant there would be more resistance. She retreats the image further to show her scarlet plate armor, her long decorated glaive, her shield, and her arming sword. ]

That's fine, the killing blow usually yields the most experience and loot. And things will be distributed fairly with the bonus going to the one who finishes off the Goblin King.

[She smiled.] We'll make a party of six, and if you'll have it, you'll be the front line tank. I've got damage down. I wield two swords right now, and I'm of the Swashbuckler class which means I'm light on my feet.

We'll need a healer, maybe two healers, and two more damage fighters. Ranged or melee.

[ Asuka smiled in competitive satisfaction. A fair ruling. ]

I'm a 'tank'? [ Her eyes suddenly scanned her mirror as the term came in. She saw the figure of a steel-plated cart and the definition being 'sapient shield.' ] You are tossing me into the front lines when it should be peasants who move up first? Fine. My horse is a coward and refuses to go any further into other dimensions. Otherwise I would be impaling the monster's head off atop my horse.

[ She then frowns. ]

Healers? As long as they know what they are doing and stay back with the archers, fine. I hope this isn't a waste of time. I have other worlds I could be exploring.

[ But, she also does take note of Leafa's own weapons (apparently of exquisite quality, to boot), and her outfit. ]

Where is your armor? What kind of man-at-arms are you?

In the world I come from, weapons and armor have things called "stats". They're stronger than they look by way of numerical value. It'll take a lot of time to explain but basically, because of a level that I am, level 74, I'm able to take a lot of punishment, and avoid a lot of damage just by being stronger numerically than my opponents who are well under the level range of this encounter.

The Goblin King is level 50 level monster, and required a Full Raid when it debuted. We'll have no trouble killing it unless we tarry.

[ The notion of 'world' is already familiar to Asuka, but the moment this girl starts mentioning 'stats', arbitrary numbers on them, and even quantifying how strong the Goblin King would be, Dame Asuka makes a face of sheer confusion at the insanity being spouted. ]

To kill any enemy, you must take it by surprise and use all advantages at hand so none of his expensive armor or weapons get any use! What's this all about numbers? An enemy is an enemy! You kill him and take from him what becomes rightfully yours!

My world is different, as it has a way to quantify how strong someone is by numerical value. It's like a game in the odd parts of the world, even though it can be life and death. People like me, Adventurers, are also immortal. I can't die permanently, and if I die, I return to the Cathedral to be reborn.

It's probably all weird for you, but when you're in my world, you'll be granted the same protective benefits of an Adventurer as well.

[ Indeed, it does sound weird. She leans forward, studying the girl's features with a rustle of her plate armor, but she huffs, and crosses her arms. ]

Very well. If it is the way your world works, I will adapt to it as I always do. A good smith can make weapons or armor that are fit to use, [ she then presses a hand against her armored chest, almost too happy to show the ornate lines weaved over it. ] my armor and weapons were crafted by the royal smiths that aided Barbarossa himself, and bound for any of the crusades in the future against any of the monsters that may appear!

I do not fear death but dishonor and humiliation. I will fight and win in this, as I always do.

Sounds good. I'll give you the protective rundown of what your role is in the team, and we'll form up when the time comes to take down the raid boss when we're ready. It'll be a fun fight, I guarantee.
